USS Saufley (DD/DDE-465)

The USS Saufley on 8 July 1952.  Notice the forward 5" has been replaced with a Mark 108 launcher, otherwise known as the "Weapon ALPHA."  You can see details of this unique weapon and pictures of it firing in the Armaments section on the Torpedo page. Also note the Mark 37 GFCS with the improved Mark 25 antenna mounted just forward the mast.  Obviously in an experimental configuration for the Mark 108 weapon ALPHA, all other weapons are grounded.

USS Saufley (DD-465) on 18 August 1944, just two years after being commissioned. Unfortunately, everything on the mast has been airbrushed out by the censor, as has the fire control radar antenna, although it was probably the standard Mark 22/12.
